The water industry regulator has set out its expectations for the information that water companies in England and Wales will publish about how they are meeting Ofwat’s principles for Board leadership,transparency and governance.

The Department for Environment and Rural Affairs has set out its plan to improve core Defra and all its network bodies – agencies, NDPBs and others – to ensure they are all working together as ‘one business’.

The collection and control of massive amounts of personal data are a source of market power for the biggest players in the global market for internet services, said the European Data Protection Supervisor (EDPS) today.

Water industry regulator Ofwat has published detailed cost allocation rules setting out a standard set of cost drivers that the water companies must use for allocating their costs for the purpose of setting the household retail and non-household retail price controls from 2015-20.

The Government is to introduce new measures in the Water Bill to ensure that neither water trading under the new competition regime which starts in 2017 and bulk transfers between water companies and other incumbents leads to over-abstraction or negative impacts on the environment.

The chief executives of the UK’s nine economic regulators have joined together to launch the UK Regulators Network (UKRN), tasked with improving coordination across regulated sectors to enhance investment and efficiency for the benefit of consumers.

Vice-President and Commissioner Maroš Šefčovič of the European Commission has announced that the Commission is to respond to the European Citizens' Right2Water Initiative with a “substantial list of commitments” for the coming months and years.

The Environment Agency has issued guidance reminding all owners of reservoirs in England with a capacity of 25,000 cubic metres or more, that could escape in the event of a dam failure, that they must be registered with the Environment Agency.

Ofwat has this morning announced the results of its pre-qualification tests for water and wastewater companies as part of its 2014 price review - South West Water and Affinity Water were the only two companies to  pre-qualify for ‘enhanced’ status.

Ricardo-AEA has been commissioned by the European Commission’s Directorate-General for Energy to provide analysis and evaluation of the measures planned, proposed or legally defined by EU Member States to implement Article 7 of the Energy Efficiency Directive (EED).

European Green Growth Group Ministers from  13 EU countries have called on the European Council to agree on the core elements of a climate and energy framework for 2030, with a minimum renewables generation target of 27% and domestic greenhouse gas target of at least 40%.

Water industry regulator Ofwat has published a series of technical documents setting out the details of the financial model it has developed as part of the price review to help it assess companies' business plans.
