Government to review role of Ofwat

The Government has announced that water industry regulator Ofwat will be reviewed to ensure it is fit for future challenges.

The Scottish Environmental Protection Agency (Sepa) has launched a new consultation on establishing a framework for partnership working that will ultimately support the production of flood risk management plans and how flooding issues in Scotland are tackled.

The Environment Agency has approved the Carbon Saver Standard as a Carbon Trust equivalent scheme.

The independent Regulatory Policy Committee (RPC) has questioned the Ministerial Direction introducing a new requirement that reservoir undertakers must produce on-site flood plans.

Northern Ireland Environment Minister Edwin Poots has announced his intention to review planning policy for flood risk.

CIWEM believes the new Sludge Directive may lead to more incinerators, increased consumer costs and higher CO2 levels.
