Water UK, the body which represents all of the UK water companies, has called for the water companies to be made statutory consultees in the planning process for applications relating to unconventional and oil gas development via an amendment to the Infrastructure Bill currently going through Parliament.

Water industry regulator Ofwat has said that it will step in if the water companies fail to rise to the challenge of meeting customers’ needs, including self-lay groups, in proposals for new customer service standards currently in the process of development.

The Government has published new guidance setting out what developers and utilities companies should expect from each other when providing utilities to bring forward future development.

The Welsh Assembly has published new guidance on regulations which came into force on 1st January placing duties on all owners of residential properties served by Dŵr Cymru Welsh Water or Dee Valley Water who let the property to someone else (e.g. a tenant) to provide basic information about the occupiers to the water company.

The House of Commons Environmental Audit Committee has today announced the launch of a new inquiry into the Transatlantic Trade and Investment Partnership (TTIP) currently being negotiated between the EU and USA.

Labour proposes fracking ban near aquifers

The Labour Party has today put forward a proposed amendment to the Infrastructure Bill which if implemented would see fracking banned in groundwater source protection zones.

The Northern Ireland Environment Agency has launched a six-month consultation on draft second cycle River Basin Management Plans for Northern Ireland.

The Environment Agency has issued new guidance on surface water discharges from installations and waste activities as well as point source water discharges and stand alone water discharge activities.

Water UK, the body which represents all the UK water companies, has said that water industry regulator Ofwat has set a “tough review” with today’s publication of Final Determinations for AMP6.

Ofwat has today finalised decisions which mean average bills for water and wastewater customers in England and Wales will fall by around 5%, before adjustments for inflation, between 2015 and 2020. 

Open Water has today published a baseline version of the arrangements governing all interactions between wholesalers and retailers in the competitive retail market for non-household customers.

The Department for Environment, Food & Rural Affairs has launched a new consultation on Government plans to implement new regulations to enable the water companies in England to exit the non-household retail  market when competition opens in 2017.
