Ofwat has announced the measures it is taking to enable Thames Water’s activities on the Tideway Tunnel to be regulated under a separate price control.

Water industry regulator Ofwat is planning  to tighten up its guidance on cost and performance reporting in the wake of variable reporting in the water companies’ AMP6 Business Plans.

The European Commission is taking Spain to court over its ongoing failure to ensure that waste water is properly treated.

Labour has announced a series of sweeping reforms intended to strengthen the industry regulator Ofwat, ensure consumers get a fairer deal from the water companies and ensure companies behave more responsibly.

Ofwat has set out its approach for approving the water companies’ charges to customers in England and Wales for 2015-16, together with details of data the companies will need to send to Ofwat as part of the process.

A new study by the Consumer Council for Water (CCWater) shows that two thirds of water customers find the price review (PR14) proposals that have been put forward by Ofwat acceptable.

The Environment Agency has updated the regulatory position ahead of new registration and permit requirements for small sewage discharges in England coming into force next year.

Cathryn Ross, Chief Executive at Ofwat has warned that water companies who fail to meet the regulator’s expectations can expect more intrusive assurance processes and more burdensome regulation.

The Government is planning to streamline the complaints process for specialised infrastructure projects (SIPs), such as the Thames Tideway Tunnel, following a consultation.

The Environment Agency has announced a second period of consultation on Cuadrilla’s applications for environmental permits for the proposed shale gas exploration site at Plumpton in Lancashire – saying it is “minded” to permit them.

Figures released today by the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs show that this year, 605 out 610 bathing sites met the mandatory standards set by the European Commission.

The House of Commons Environmental Audit Committee is to conduct an inquiry into the Government’s response to the Natural Capital Committee’s second “State of Natural Capital” report - and will hear from Professor Dieter Helm, chair of the NCC, as part of it.
