The Environment Agency has prosecuted Southern Water for causing sewage to enter the Bevern Stream at Barcombe in East Sussex during September last year.

The Water Industry Commission for Scotland (WICS) is starting the process to revoke Aquavitae’s licences as a response to the company entering administration - but the Commission also sees increasing signs that customers are benefiting from the new market arrangements

The Health and Safety Executive (HSE) has renewed its warning to companies to ensure that water storage and cooling systems are adequately treated to prevent the growth of the legionella bacteria - which affects around 300 people in the UK each year.

Ofwat has written to the water and sewerage companies to clarify its position on how renewable energy will be treated under the forthcoming PR09 Price Review.

Ofwat publishes Annual Report 2007-08

Ofwat has published its Annual Report for 2007-08. According to the Report, despite the credit crunch during the later part of 2007-08. water companies have where necessary been able to continue to raise finance and remain financially robust unlike other sectors.

Greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions in the European Union decreased slightly between 2005 and 2006 according to the official inventory report prepared by the European Environment Agency (EEA).

The Water Industry Commission for Scotland (WICS), the economic regulator for Scottish Water, has issued its annual report for 2007-8.

Defra has published an outline of a proposed new National Flood Emergency Framework. This fulfils a commitment made by Hilary Benn on 25 June 2008, following the publication of Sir Michael Pitt's final independent report into the summer 2007 floods.

Ofwat has written to the water and wastewater companies setting outs its guidance on how it expects each company to design its public sewerage system to deliver best value for consumers over the long term.

Water companies would face targets to help customers save more than 23 million litres of water a day (Ml/d), under new proposals published by Ofwat.
