Amazon is reporting that its data centres are seven times more water-efficient than the industry average – saying it is constantly innovating to reduce the amount of water used, resulting in a 52% improvement in water efficiency since 2021.

Global water experts are warning that the world is at risk of a 40% shortfall in freshwater supply by 2030, with severe shortages in water-constrained regions.

Southern Water has set up Resource Hubs at its wastewater treatment works (WwTW) to investigate how it can make more use of untapped company resources to help local communities. 

The belief there is an endless supply of clean fresh water and an apparent squeamishness about recycled water are serious barriers to better use of the vital resource in UK homes and businesses, experts have warned.
