Members of Lancashire County Council's Development Control Committee yesterday voted to refuse the application by oil and gas company Cuadrilla to explore for shale gas at Roseacre Wood by drilling, hydraulically fracking and testing the flow of gas.

Arup and the C40 Cities Climate Leadership Group (C40) have announced the formation of a collaborative global partnership.

Global peacebuilding charity International Alert has marked the UK launch of a G7-commissioned report on the impact of climate change on fragile states with a high-level event at the Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO) in London.
