The Strelley to Redhill Trunk Main Project, which successfully delivered a 16.3-kilometre strategic water pipeline enhanced the resilience and capacity of a network of around 180,000 customers in North Nottinghamshire.

Recognising outstanding projects that have driven improvements in the resilience, quality and sustainability of the UK’s water and wastewater facilities, the category celebrates projects that have demonstrated an innovative approach to managing water resources and have delivered tangible community and environmental benefits.

The project was delivered ahead of schedule and with a high degree of technical excellence in terms of its engineering delivery.

In response to Avove’s entry, BCIA’s panel of industry expert judges, stated:

“The Strelley to Redhill project showcases multiple instances of innovation and best practice delivery. It was evidently important and well managed, with a strong focus on habitat preservation and watercourse protection.

“This project achieved its outcomes successfully, with notable elements including a community engagement initiative like the Tunnel Bore Machine (TBM) naming competition. The strategic pipeline spans 16.3 km and demonstrates solid environmental compliance and stakeholder collaboration. Digital tools and a strong health, safety, and wellbeing culture contributed to the successful, on-time, and on-budget delivery.”

Stephen Delaney, Framework Director, commented:

“We’re absolutely delighted to have been shortlisted for this prestigious award. The successful delivery of this £32m initiative has enhanced water supply resilience, providing an additional 25 million litres of water per day to the region whilst reducing boreholes and accommodating future demand.

“Throughout its design and delivery, innovative construction methods were utilised to minimise the environmental impact, and it’s great to see that this has been recognised by the judging panel and is one of the key reasons why we have been shortlisted. With that, we’re very pleased to have made the shortlist and we look forward to attending the awards ceremony later this year.”

The Strelley to Redhill Trunk Main project has delivered far-reaching, measurable outcomes that extend well beyond the original project scope, setting a new benchmark for infrastructure performance, whilst strengthening Avove’s position as an expert, responsible and agile industry partner.

Avove’s project was among nearly 250 entries across 24 categories from over 100 organisations.

The Awards for 2025 have been refreshed, along with the event name itself and this year they also include the inaugural Sir John Armitt Prize. The prize recognises projects that surpass objectives, satisfy clients, and deliver significant benefits to end-users and stakeholders.

Sir John Armitt, Chair of the judging panel for the prize said:

“I am delighted to have been asked to help select the inaugural award in my name and celebrate the very best we can achieve. We design to satisfy a client’s desired outcomes. But at the same time, we need to satisfy wider stakeholders that we have created buildings and infrastructure which benefit the community and create an improved and uplifting environment. To achieve this, we must be creative, innovate, and challenge ourselves and our colleagues in a collaborative approach – and this award recognises a project team that exemplifies these very qualities.”
