Key facts include:
- more than 500 bridging structures over and under the route
- more than 100 embankments and 70 cuttings
- work now underway on over two thirds of HS2 viaducts and over half of its bridges
- over 25 miles of tunnels created using giant Tunnel Boring Machines
- over half million tonnes of London clay excavated to create underground station box at Old Oak Common terminal in London
- on outskirts of west London construction of Colne Valley viaduct has passed the halfway mark on its way to become UK's longest railway bridge passing across a series of lakes
- the largest single project in the Green Corridor programme is the creation of some 90 hectares of new chalk grassland using chalk from HS2 tunnelling activities
- when complete tunnels will be covered with earth and landscaped, featuring thousands of native trees and shrubs
- over 35 million cubic metres of material has been excavated across the HS2 route - with around 95% reused on site
- work is currently ongoing across over 350 active sites between London and the West Midlands
