Changing Arctic Ocean research programme - timetable for second call for proposals

The Natural Environment Research Council (NERC ) has announced the indicative timing of the Changing Arctic Ocean research programme's second, and final, call for proposals.

The over-arching goal of the Changing Arctic Ocean research programme is to understand how change in the physical environment (ice and ocean) will affect the large-scale ecosystem structure and biogeochemical functioning of the Arctic Ocean, the potential major impacts, and to provide projections for future ecosystem services.

Following the programme's first call for proposals, which committed the majority of the research programme's £16 million budget, NERC has been working with the German Federal Ministry of Education & Research (BMBF) to develop a second call for proposals.

The NERC contribution to this joint announcement of opportunity would be around €4 million and it is anticipated that this will fund the UK contribution of up to ten joint projects with German scientists.

Details for the call for proposals are now nearly finalised and NERC anticipates that the joint announcement of opportunity will be published in mid-May. The planned timetable for the call for proposals will not require full proposals to be submitted before mid to late September 2017.
