Yorkshire Water launches biggest ever apprenticeship recruitment scheme

Yorkshire Water has launched its biggest ever apprenticeship recruitment programme.

Applications for the scheme are now open with salaries starting above the national apprentice average at £13,000.

As well as a competitive salary, the new recruits will receive 10 free driving lessons and a paid for theory and driving test. If they already have a driving licence, a free metrocard will be provided.

In total, 160 apprentices will be hired by the company over the next five years, with the programmes lasting between two to four years.

The closing date for 2015 applications is the 31st May with successful applicants starting their apprenticeships in September.

The new positions will include engineering, IT, operational and office based roles as Yorkshire Water looks to recruit the next generation of skilled employees.

With almost one in five (18.3%) 18-24 year olds across Yorkshire not in education, employment or training (NEETs), the announcement is welcome news for the region.

The new skilled recruits will also ensure Yorkshire Water is prepared for a skills gap being predicted in the utility sector by 2025 - partly caused by an ageing workforce.
