More upgrades to Yorkshire Water reservoirs

Yorkshire Water has announced more upgrades as part of  its £60 million programme of work to maintain and modernise reservoir sites across the region.

Work at Weecher reservoir, between Bingley and Keighley is scheduled to start on Monday 20 September. Yorkshire Water's contractors will begin constructing a new state-of-the-art spillway to replace the current one at the site. The project is expected to last for around seven months. The reservoir level was recently lowered to ensure the safety of contractors who will be working on the embankment.

Next week the company is set to unveil its improvement plans for the Withens Clough reservoir near Huddersfield. A special drop-in session will give customers the opportunity to learn more about the two phase programme of improvement work which is soon to take place at the reservoir as part of the company's £60 million project to maintain and modernise its reservoir sites across the region.

The first phase of work at the reservoir is set to begin on Monday 27 September with contractors Mott MacDonald Bentley (MMB) undertaking work to improve drainage around the reservoir embankment.

Following this, the second phase of the project, which will take around 15 months to complete, is expected to begin early next year to replace the existing overflow structures at the reservoir.

John Bond of Yorkshire Water's community engagement team, said:

"This is a great opportunity for people to come and learn about what we are going to do, how we're going to do it and the benefits the scheme will ultimately deliver for them. Not only will they be able to view the plans, but they will have the chance to ask members of the project team about the work."More information about curent and upcoming schemes is available at www.yorkshirewater.com/reservoirs.
