Northumbrian and Thames apply for retail business licences

Both NWG Business Ltd and Thames Water Commercial Services Ltd have applied for water supply and sewerage licences ahead of the non-household retail market opening for competition in April 2017.

NWG Business Ltd, which already provides water and sewerage services to a portfolio of customers in Scotland, intends to offer national coverage to eligible customers in England and Wales. The company will become the retail supplier for customers in the Northumbrian Water and Essex and Suffolk Water regions via the Retail Exit mechanism.

Thames Water Commercial Services Ltd already holds a current Water Supply Licence and is applying for the new Water Supply and Sewerage Licence.

Ofwat is now seeking stakeholder comment on the applications – deadline to make representations or objections is Monday 20th June.
