Severn Trent starts work on £1.6m sewer flooding scheme

Severn Trent is starting work on a project to help prevent sewer flooding for homes in Kidderminster next week. Severn Trent is starting work on a project to help prevent sewer flooding for homes in Kidderminster next week.

The company is investing more than £1.6 million in the new scheme that will help protect homes in Spennells from sewer flooding.

Project engineer Seng Cheah commented:

“We know just how terrible sewer flooding can be for anyone, which is why this is a really important project for people living in Linnet Rise.

“When rain falls quickly it can fill the sewers which, at the moment, don’t have the capacity to move the water away fast enough, so we’ll be installing two underground storage tanks which will help to take more waste water away and so reduce the risk of flooding for everyone living in Linnet Rise.”

The two new underground attenuation tanks will be installed beneath two nearby parking areas. The scheme also includes additional new drainage and new kerbs to help convey the surface water flows into the pipe network.

The work, which should be completed by the end of August, is needed to increase protection to a number of properties at risk of flooding from the public sewer during periods of heavy rainfall.
