Welsh Water’s environmental boost for Trawsfynydd

Dwr Cymru Welsh Water has completed two investment schemes worth a combined total of £733,000 which will deliver environmental benefits to the village of Trawsfynydd.

Work on the schemes involved the installation of new screening equipment and upgrading part of the existing wastewater network in the area. The work will provide screening of storm overflows and reduce the number of times storm water is released into local waterways during heavy rain, which will provide a boost to the local environment and wildlife.

Welsh Water liaised with relevant bodies, including Gwynedd Council and Environment Agency Wales during the project’s planning stages.

Welsh Water is also investing £513,000 in a scheme in the village of Trefor Isaf near Wrexham. The utility company has started work to upgrade part of the existing wastewater network in the Mill Lane area of the village.Work will take place on land adjacent to the entrance to the Flexys Water Treatment Plant and will involve constructing a new storm overflow chamber, installing new screening equipment and constructing associated pipework. When completed, the scheme will improve the performance of the network during storm weather conditions by reducing the number of times unscreened storm water is released into the Tref-y-Nant brook. This will deliver a boost to the environment by improving water quality in the watercourse. Work on the essential upgrade is expected to be completed in early July.
