Southern Water is progressing with its plans to build a 10km sewer pipeline that will run from the west of Chichester, across the north of the city and through to Tangmere, where it will connect to the Tangmere Wastewater Treatment Works.

The water company is currently in the process of requesting planning permission for the new 10km sewer pipeline and upgrade and expansion of the existing sewer network. This will include three new pumping stations to take away and treat wastewater from proposed new homes, identified in Chichester District Council’s Local Plan. The application will be submitted to West Sussex County Council in late November.
The pumping stations will be largely below ground – all that will be visible above ground will be green kiosks and a treatment unit.
Once planning permission has been secured, the work is scheduled to start in summer 2018, completing construction within 18 months, and reinstatement of all areas within two years.
Southern Water has already had feedback on the Chichester pipeline plans, including comment from 200 people who came to a public exhibition in September and is now reviewing all comments.
The water company also holding another exhibition on 8th November where final plans will be on display ahead of submitting the planning application on 22nd November. Stakeholders will then be able to view and comment on the planning application on West Sussex County Council ’s planning portal.
