Additional consultation starts today for Greater Dublin Drainage project

An Bord Pleanála has notified Irish Water that it intends to hold an additional period of statutory consultation for the Greater Dublin Drainage Project from today which will run until Thursday 18th October 2018.

The Greater Dublin Drainage Project (GDD) is for the development of a new regional wastewater treatment facility and associated infrastructure to serve the growing population of north Dublin and parts of the surrounding counties of Kildare and Meath.

The new regional wastewater treatment facility is being proposed in order to protect public health, safeguard the environment and facilitate the social and economic growth of the Greater Dublin Area.

On 20 June, Irish Water made a strategic infrastructure planning application for the Greater Dublin Drainage project to An Bord Pleanála. On 25 July, Irish Water notified An Bord Pleanála that it had discovered that a small number of the supporting appendices to the Environmental Impact Assessment Report (EIAR) were inadvertently omitted from the submitted documentation.

The omitted information comprised a number of supporting appendices on the terrestrial and marine ground investigations and previously published project reports for the site investigation stage of the Regional Biosolids Storage Facility project. A number of drawings relating to landfill/quarry locations and road/rail/utilities crossings were also omitted.

The omission of the supporting documentation does not impact the findings and conclusions of the Environmental Impact Assessment Report - the data from the reports had already been incorporated in the main Environmental Impact Assessment Report.

Irish Water said it welcomed the direction from An Bord Pleanála and pointed out that anyone who has made an observation/submission to An Bord Pleanála as part of the recent statutory consultation does not need to resubmit their observation/submission.

All previous consultation submissions remain valid and will be considered by An Bord Pleanála.

A further five week period for any objections to the compulsory purchase of lands and rights over land in connection with the Irish Water Compulsory Purchase (Greater Dublin Drainage Project) Order, 2018 will also be held.
