Natural Capital Impact Group welcomes Thames Water as its newest member

The University of Cambridge Institute for Sustainability Leadership (CISL) has announced that Thames Water have joined the Natural Capital Impact Group.

thames water cislConvened by CISL, the Natural Capital Impact Group is composed of progressive companies, including market leaders and household names, with significant land footprints and dependencies upon natural capital, which seek to measure and value their impacts upon natural capital.

The group helps its members to understand the benefits of incorporating natural capital in their company decision-making to both their business and the environment.

In May this year CISL launched the catchment management declaration, a collaborative initiative aimed at creating multi-sector water management, in response to the water catchment-related ambition of the UK Government’s 25 Year Environment Plan.

CISL said that as the UK’s largest water and wastewater services provider, supplying almost one third of the 9 billion litres of water used by people and businesses in the UK each day, Thames Water is a welcome addition to the Natural Capital Impact Group.

Dr Gemma Cranston, CISL Director, Natural Capital, said:

“I am delighted that Thames Water are deepening their engagement with CISL by joining the Natural Capital Impact Group. We will work closely with Thames Water to build on their existing sustainability initiatives to enable them to further manage their impacts and dependencies on the environment.”

Richard Aylard, Thames Water External Affairs & Sustainability Director, said:

“Understanding and measuring the value of the natural environment in providing goods and services can help us make more informed decisions about how we operate our assets and invest in the future. We look forward to working with the Natural Capital Impact Group to support us in achieving this, ensuring that we continue to deliver a high level of service to our customers.”
