Ofwat has launched the application process to find a suitable candidate to head up its proposed new office in Wales.
The water sector regulator is setting up an office in Wales for the first time to ensure it is properly participating in Welsh policy discussions.
Based in Cardiff, the new Head of Ofwat Wales will be responsible for setting up the office. Working with colleagues across Ofwat’s Birmingham and London offices, they will set the direction for Ofwat policy development in Wales and developing longer-term strategic policy.
The regulator is looking for candidates with experience of leading strategic policy development, design and implementation, together with proven successful leadership in a policy analysis and policy delivery environment. Knowledge of the Welsh political environment – political context, policy drivers, environmental policy and industrial policy - is an essential requirement for the job.
The new Head will represent Ofwat to key stakeholders in Wales – experience of balancing the competing interests of a number of stakeholders in a political environment, ideally in a Welsh context, is also a key requirement. Experience of working with devolved administrations and an in-depth knowledge of policy development process in central and devolved governments would also be desirable,
Oral and written Welsh language skills are not essential - however, the post holder will be encouraged and supported to learn, develop and use Welsh.
Ofwat said the new appointee is likely be an experienced policy or public affairs professional.
The role will initially be a 12 month appointment, with the potential for an extension and possible conversion to permanency.
Deadline for applications is 26 February 2020, with interviews expected to take place in Cardiff in the week commencing 16 March 2020.
