Significant progress has been made on the upgrade works that will benefit close to 12,000 customers supplied by the Ardfinnan Regional Water Supply in South Tipperary.

Uisce Éireann, in partnership with Tipperary County Council, is upgrading the treatment process at the Goatenbridge Water Treatment Plant to ensure a safe and secure drinking water supply for communities in Ardfinnan, Newcastle, Cahir and surrounding areas.

The significant works involve:

  • installation of new chambers and mixers
  • upgrade of existing chemical dosing systems and storage
  • new and upgraded filter controls
  • new sludge storage and treatment facilities
  • replacement of existing electrical panels
  • installation of a new generator.

Works commenced on site in Summer 2023 and have progressed well, with most heavy construction work already complete.

Speaking about the project, Ian O’Neill, Portfolio Manager with Uisce Éireann said:

“We’ve made great strides in the delivery of this essential plant upgrade that will deliver safe, clean drinking water to homes and businesses served by the Ardfinnan Regional Public Water Supply, while also ensuring compliance with drinking water regulations.

“This project at Goatenbridge Water Treatment Plant reflects Uisce Éireann’s commitment to the efficient delivery of critical infrastructure to support communities across Tipperary.”

The works are being carried out on behalf of Uisce Éireann by Glanua and are expected to be complete in 2025.
