Uisce Éireann is starting work in Tullow in County Carlow on a major €17 million upgrade to its wastewater treatment network that will modernise and improve its performance, increase capacity, and enhance water quality in the River Slaney.

EPS has been appointed on behalf of Uisce Éireann to commence works in early May and the project is set to be completed in 2026.

The project follows a €10 million upgrade of the town’s wastewater treatment plant last year. The significant investment reflects Uisce Éireann’s commitment to deliver critical wastewater infrastructure to support communities in Carlow.

The latest upgrade works, which are being carried out in partnership with Carlow County Council, include:

• upgrading the sewer network, a section of which involves a river crossing;
• installing new pipeline;
• construction of a new pumping station and decommissioning of the existing structure;
• construction of a storm tank;
• installing a new storm water overflow.

Highlighting the importance of the project for the people of Tullow, Esther White, Programme Manager at Uisce Éireann, said:
