Severn Trent Water is progressing work on a £22.3 million upgrade at its Blymhill Sewage Treatment Works in Staffordshire - the improvements include greater storage and upgrading existing equipment, to ensure its long-term performance.

The upgrades to further improve the quality of the water leaving the site include:
- A new inlet screen to manage incoming flows and remove large solids
- Advanced biological treatment and upgraded chemical dosing systems
- New settlement tanks and plant
- Enhanced sensors to monitor water quality
- Upgraded pump stations to support the new treatment stages
The improvements will also reduce the number of heavy lorries leaving the site.
The water company is cutrently installing four new storage tanks, which are a permanent fixture, which will be approximately 6m in diameter and 6 meters tall in size and will cover approximately 15m by 15m of land.
All improvements are taking place within the existing footprint of the treatment works.
Severn Trent’s delivery partners, contractors JN Bentley, are carrying out the works, which started in February and are due to be completed by December 2026.
The water company is holding a drop-in event tomorrow in the village where residents can hear from the project team from Severn Trent and JN Bentley to learn more about the works.
