Work is underway on a £4.5 million United Utilities project to upgrade nearly 10km of water network in the Tarporley area of Cheshire.

The nine-month project will see the water company replacing water mains with new pipeline that is designed to protect against burst and leaks improving the resilience and reliability of the drinking water network in the area.

The scheme is part of United Utilities’ £380 million programme to upgrade more than 925km of water mains across the North West in the next five years. More than 159km of these will be in Cheshire.

Work will be carried out in three phases - the first phase of the works begins in Organsdale in January, moving onto Tarporley Road late February, before finally completing on Knights Lane in September. The new pipework will span a total of 9.8km.

Rob Moore, County Business Lead for Water in Cheshire at United Utilities explained:

“In Cheshire we’re investing £55m between now and 2030 to help reduce bursts and leaks to keep water flowing through customers' taps. To do this we are upgrading more than 159km of water mains with new more durable, flexible pipes that are built to withstand high pressure and temperature variations. The work in Tarporley is a key part of that programme and showcases our commitment to providing customers with the highest quality of drinking water.”

Contract partner Network Plus is carrying out the work on behalf of United Utilities.
