Uisce Éireann is set to begin the first phase of a major wastewater upgrade of up to €55 million in Sandyford.

The scheme will strengthen Sandyford’s wastewater network, helping to support new homes, business growth and a more resilient wastewater network for the area.

The Sandyford Wastewater Upgrade brings together three connected projects: the Moreen Sandyford Wastewater Network Upgrade, the Sandyford-Stillorgan Wastewater Pumping Station, and the Sandyford Wastewater Network Upgrade.

Together, the projects will provide the additional wastewater capacity needed to support Sandyford as it continues to grow. The works will reduce pressure on existing infrastructure, reduce risk of flooding in the locality during storm events, improve the resilience of the network and help ensure the area has the water services it needs for planned housing and economic development.

Padraic Fitzgerald, Uisce Éireann Programme Manager, said:

“Sandyford is a growing area and it needs water and wastewater infrastructure that can keep pace with that growth. This €55 million wastewater investment will increase capacity in the network, reduce pressure on existing infrastructure, reduce the risk of flooding in the locality during storm events and enable the delivery of new homes and continued economic development in the area.”

The first phase will begin in the Moreen area of Sandyford in early July and will involve upgrading approximately 360 metres of gravity sewer as part of our Growth and Development Programme.

Further phases of the Sandyford Wastewater Upgrades will include new wastewater infrastructure at the Stillorgan Reservoir site and additional network upgrades across the Sandyford area. Together, these upgrades will enable the delivery of over 4,000 new homes in the area.

The works will be carried out on behalf of Uisce Éireann by GMC Utilities Group.

Along with upgrading the wastewater network, the water company is also nearing completion of an approximately €5 million investment in new drinking water infrastructure in Sandyford. The project involves upgrading almost 1km of water mains at Carmanhall Road, Blackthorn Road and Burton Hall Road. Once complete, the works will increase water supply capacity and support the potential delivery of up to 5,700 new homes in the community.

The projects are being delivered through Uisce Éireann’s Growth and Development Programme, a national programme of targeted investment in water and wastewater infrastructure.
