Anglian Water has started work on a £1.4 million project in Buckinghamshire to strengthen the water network.

Residents in Granborough and North Marston in Buckinghamshire will soon benefit from a major investment to improve the reliability of local water supplies, as Anglian Water begins work to replace ageing water pipes between the two villages.

The project will see 3.4 kilometres of new water pipe installed between Granborough and North Marston, helping to reduce the risk of future bursts and build a more resilient water network for local communities. Work started on 1 September and is expected to be completed by April 2027.

Some of the existing pipes are reaching the end of their useful life, and the area has experienced 13 bursts in the last five years, leading to periods of low water pressure and interruptions to supply for some customers.

Megan Sperryn, Customer Experience Specialist for the project commented:

"Our £1.4m investment to strengthen the water network between Granborough and North Marston is part of our £348 million investment that will renew 1,134 kilometres of water mains across the East of England by 2030. During this period of drought, we are asking our customers to help save water via our hosepipe ban, and we are investing for the future to reduce leakage and improve the resilience of our water network.

"This investment is part of our wider work to strengthen the region's water network and help ensure communities continue to receive a reliable water supply long into the future."

Anglian Water will use directional drilling for much of the scheme. This technique allows new pipes to be installed underground with less excavation, reducing disruption to local communities, shortening construction times and lowering the carbon impact of the project.
