Yorkshire Water contract partner M Group is starting work on two more water mains replacement schemes for the water company.

In the Wharncliffe Side and Brightholmlee area of Sheffield Yorkshire Water is investing £3.6 million to replace approximately 9km of clean water mains.
M Group is carrying out the work to replace ageing water mains to improve the resilience and reliability of the network and reduce the likelihood of bursts and interruptions to customers’ water supplies.
Jason Farrar, project manager at Yorkshire Water, said:
“We’re investing £3.6m to replace around 9km of ageing water mains in Wharncliffe Side and Brightholmlee. The area has been identified as a high priority for investment and upgrade because of repeated failures in some locations.
“This significant upgrade of over 9km of clean water mains will help reduce the likelihood of bursts and interruptions to customers’ water supplies in the future and we’re working closely with the highways team to keep disruption to residents and road users to a minimum.
In a separate project, Yorkshire Water is investing £315,000 to upgrade the clean water network in Cherry Burton, helping to reduce the risk of bursts and supply interruptions.
M Group, is starting on site this week to replace over 420 meters of clean water main, beginning at Highgate. The full project is expected to take six weeks to complete.
Jason Farrar, project manager said the project will replace sections of ageing, cast iron mains with durable plastic pipe that is less prone to bursts or leaks. Wherever possible, the clean water pipes will be installed through the existing main, reducing the amount of excavation needed and helping to minimise disruption.
The schemes forms part of Yorkshire Water’s largest ever investment programme, worth £8.3 billion, to improve infrastructure and services for customers across the region. This includes £406 million investment to replace over 1,000km of clean water mains across the region between 2025 and 2030.
