Belton benefits from £4M water pipe investment

Yorkshire Water is progressing well with its £4.1million scheme to further improve the security of its water supplies to 9,000 properties in and around Belton.

Yorkshire Water's contract partners Balfour Beatty Utilities began work back in December 2010 to lay 14km of water main.

The work will provide a huge boost to the security of supplies by adding a second major main to supply high-quality water to residents in the area.

Careful consideration was given to the route of the new pipe to try and keep any disruption to local residents and road users to an absolute minimum, with plans put on public display at a special drop-in session back in November 2010.

The company is using hi-tech trenching technology is also been used to speed up digging where possible, and minimise any noise.

Dave Standish, Yorkshire Water's project manager, commented:

"Whilst we continue to provide some of the best quality drinking water in the world to our customers in Belton 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, we recognise that relying on just one water pipe to do this in future might jeopardise supplies.

"Ensuring we maintain water supplies to our customers at all times is extremely important to us and this brand new pipe will help us to do just that and give us extra flexibility when it comes to supplying our customers in Belton and the surrounding area."

The work is expected to be fully complete by November 2011.
