Anglian Water will put its plans for a new £9 million 31km underground pipeline on display in Bardwell later this month.
The £9 million scheme will see water piped from Barnham Cross to Anglian Water’s reservoir in Little Welnetham, to secure future supplies for the growing town of Bury St. Edmunds and wider county.
Andy Barnes, Anglian Water’s Project Manager for the pipeline said careful consideration has been given to the design and location of the pipe to enable the work to be carried out as swiftly as possible. The work, which will be carried out in three phases, should be completed by the beginning of June.
The population of Bury St Edmunds is expected to rise significantly over the next 25 years, which will put pressure on existing water supplies. The pipeline is Anglian Water’s response to the growth in demand and represents a major investment in Suffolk’s infrastructure.
Despite the recent flooding across many parts of the UK, the Anglian region is still the driest in the UK and faced with a growing population and climate change.
