United Utilities has accelerated its capital investment programme with a £49m increase to £836m in 2013/14, and  initiated around £40m of transitional investment to aid a smoother and more effective start to AMP6,  according to its latest financial results for 2013/14 published this morning.

Costain has developed new skills and brought in key new people to meet the changing needs of its water sector customers.

Work starts this month on a major flood alleviation scheme in Colebrook, near Plympton where up to 47 homes have suffered from flooding from watercourses, sewers and surface water.

Severn Trent Water is to invest £15million in upgrading both its water and wastewater networks in Stafford.

Northumbrian Water is starting work next week on its £1.6 million scheme to reduce the risk of flooding to 20 homes in Jarrow.

Sedgemoor Council has asked for more information regarding Bristol Water’s planning application to construct a major new reservoir and issued a formal Environmental Impact Assessment Regulation 22 request.

Severn Trent has been fined £25,000 and ordered to pay £10,267.05 in costs, along with a £15 victim surcharge, for pollution of the Messingham Reservoir.

South East Water has made an application to the Environment Agency made to increase abstraction  at one of its groundwater sources by 25% annually.

Cambridge Water has topped a new Consumer Council for Water survey which looks at customer satisfaction in the water industry.

Housebuilding and construction group Galliford Try plc has said it expects to outperform current analysts' predictions on profit for the full year ending 30th June with the publication this morning of its latest Interim Management Statement.
