United Utilities engineers working on a major sewer improvement scheme in Manchester are bringing in a huge tunnel-boring machine to drive a 700-metre long tunnel through the heart of Trafford Park.

Conservation and research projects across the south west could be given a boost through the launch of phase 5 of an environmental support scheme by Wessex Water.

Skanska UK continues to perform strongly

Skanska UK’s construction business recorded an operating income (profit) of £30.8 million in the first nine months of 2014 and revenue of £1,001.3 million, equating to an operating margin of 3.1 per cent according to its latest trading update.

Bristol Water has been granted full planning permission to build a new reservoir next to the existing one at Cheddar in Somerset.

Scottish Water is about to start investment of more than £10m in major improvements to waste water infrastructure in the Yoker area of Glasgow and part of Clydebank, which will help improve the water quality and natural environment of the River Clyde and tackle flooding issues.

Galliford Try order book climbs to £3.1bn

Housebuilding and construction group Galliford Try order book has almost doubled, with the business generating “exceptional levels of cash.”according to its Interim Management Statement.

South East Water commits to Living Wage

South East Water has been announced as the first water company to receive accreditation from the Living Wage Foundation for paying its employees the Living Wage.

North west water firm United Utilities, of the hit TV series Watermen, is a world leader in corporate responsibility, according to global experts.

A new report  by the London Chamber of Commerce and Industry and KPMG is warning that UK infrastructure projects worth £96 billion could be in jeopardy unless an acute skills shortage is addressed.
