Murphy wins United Utilities AMP6 Harrowside Outfall scheme

United Utilities has appointed J. Murphy & Sons Limited to design, build and commission works in connection with the replacement of Harrowside Outfall in Blackpool located just south of Blackpool Pleasure beach.

Due to start in May 2015, the project will be delivered by Land and Marine Engineering Limited, a wholly owned subsidiary of Murphy. The works are part of United Utilities’ £100m investment to improve the sewer network along the Fylde Coast over the next five years.

Brian Sharp, United Utilities Senior Project Manager for Harrowside, said:

"This year, bathing waters will be judged for the first time against the new stringent European bathing water laws. All of Fylde’s bathing waters passed the previous standards so we’ve come a long way in improving water quality but the stricter directive means we all need to do more. United Utilities is absolutely committed to playing its part and investing in the area to help further clean up the sea off the coast of Blackpool. We look forward to working with Murphy and Land & Marine to support us in delivering this significant contract”.

Andrew Ball, Land & Marine Managing Director, added:

“We are delighted to have been awarded this contract, which is testament to the skills and experience of our marine personnel. With a vast experience of delivering projects of this nature, we look forward to working with United Utilities and all other stakeholders to successfully deliver the Harrowside works”.
