Northumbrian Water has gone out to tender with a framework contract for software programming and consultancy services worth an estimated £2.9 million.
The water company is looking to appoint a framework of vendors to assist with iOS Mobile App development and ongoing support for internal corporate apps. The vendors will be required to utilise the Microsoft Xamarin technology alongside the Azure mobile middleware platform.
Northumbrian Water described the move as “a significant step” for the business as it prepares to utilise new technologies to enhance both operative experience in the field and the employee experience overall to enable a better customer service.
The utility has already started on the path to Mobile App development and much of the foundation architecture will be already in place. An immediate need exists to develop an app specific for water networks operatives which will be based upon functionality currently being developed by another supplier for the waste water network operatives.
The water company is looking to appoint up to four suppliers to the framework agreement, which will run for an initial term of 3 years with an option to extend by 2 years.
