Anglian Water has awarded a contract for smart water meters, communication equipment in boundary boxes and data services via a communications network across its household customer base worth an estimated £230 million.

The water company has awarded a framework agreement to two suppliers for the supply of meters, communication devices, network and data services (data for period 2020 to 2040).
Anglian Water believes that the Network Programme will enable it to achieve leakage and consumption savings in the order of 52 MLD by 2045, closing its deficits by demand side controls and behavioural change.
This will in turn enable the utility to avoid large capital expenditure on supply side projects. It will also provide Anglian with the means to enhance the impact of water efficiency measures linked to installing first time meters in an area facing a water deficit in the future.
Arqiva Ltd has been awarded Lot 1, the main smart metering contract, one of three suppliers who bid for the work. For the supply of meters and radio equipment that will operate in boundary boxes, 45 % of the value or proportion likely to be subcontracted to third parties. Suez Advanced Solutions UK Ltd has been awarded a contract as secondary supplier.
