The water company believes the new breed of low cost sewer monitors, now just starting to hit the market, presents a huge opportunity and positively changes the business case for mass deployment.

Southern Water said that assuming its business case assumptions can be verified this summer, it plans to install thousands of low cost sewer monitors from October 2021 and March 2022. At the same time it also wants to deploy in parallel the associated analytics to make use of the additional information obtained to prevent sewer blockages developing into pollution or flooding incidents.

The water company is inviting interested suppliers with the ability to supply Southern Water with low cost (under £200 per unit) sewer monitors to get in touch by 9th April. It also wants to hear from suppliers with experience of and delivering developed and tested analytical products or services.

Southern Water said:

“We are looking to the market place to provide as much information as possible to help us shape our project and any future tenders that may arise following this exercise.”
