The water company is already out for tender using a Dynamic Purchasing System and has already engaged with a number of suppliers. However, Severn Trent now looking for more interest to support with the full end to end process of replacing the supply pipes from mains to tap and is looking to widen its supply chain.

Severn Trent, which services customers across the Midlands, wants to hear expressions of interest from potential suppliers to support its ambitions to Protect our Customer Supply Pipes as part of its Green Recovery programme – a £566 million scheme that aims to support the UK’s green economic recovery.

Helen Miles, Capital Delivery & Commercial Director said:

“This is a really exciting time for us, as this project is really helping make sure that the water network in Coventry and Bomere Heath in Shropshire is up to date and in the best possible condition by supporting customers with replacing their own supply pipe at no cost to them.

“We’re committed to replacing 26,000 customer supply pipes by March 2025 and we really want to hear from suppliers across the Midlands and beyond of all shapes and sizes who can help us roll this project out successfully and efficiently.

“Supply pipes are usually the responsibility of the homeowner to replace, so this is something new for us as a company and the UK Water industry, so we want to explore different ways of working, and what innovative and green solutions we can employ to give the best possible experience for our customers.

“We believe this could be a real growth area for the Water Industry over the coming years as we attempt to tackle this national challenge and we, with our supply partners, will be at the forefront of shaping future lead replacement programmes both locally and nationally.

“We’d love to hear from plumbing firms, civils and infrastructure providers who are keen to help us to leave a lasting legacy for generations to come. If you want to be involved in a truly unique, and exciting project we’d love to hear from you.”
