Northumbrian Water has gone out to tender with a contract forbiosolids recycling activities for Howdon and Bran Sands worth an estimated £10 million.

The water company has a requirement for the spreading of biosolids from advanced anaerobic digestion plants for both Howdon and Bran Sands Sewage Treatment Works (STW's).
Northumbrian Water would deliver wastewater sludge using in-house fleet, off-load it onto the land/farm and stockpile - thesupplier(s) would then be responsible for spreading activity and associated activities.
Spreading is required for the following volumes:
Lot 1 - Howdon STW (post code NE28 0QD) circa 50,000 tonnes of biosolids per annum;
Lot 2 - Bran Sands ETW (post code TS6 6UE) circa 50,000 tonnes of biosolids per annum;
Initial contract term is five years with an option to extend for a further five years.
