AtkinsRéalis to support delivery of record investment in services by Dŵr Cymru Welsh Water

AtkinsRéalis has been appointed by Dŵr Cymru Welsh Water as one of four new Engineering Consultancy Services (ECS) partners, to support the delivery of the water company’s largest ever investment in environmental enhancement and protecting the water supply for its three million customers.

Andy Taylor, Director of Asset Planning for DCWW, commented:

“Our proposed business plan for the next five year period, subject to approval from Ofwat, will see our largest ever investment into enhancing our environment and protecting the water we supply to our customers.

“We look forward to working with AtkinsRéalis on our Engineering Consultancy Services framework to support us delivering our investment so that we can continue providing efficient, cost-effective water and wastewater services to our three million customers."

If approved, the plan from DCWW will result in the company’s biggest ever investment programme, worth £3.5 billion over five years, which will be equivalent to a 68% increase on the investment between 2020 and 2025.

As one of four new Engineering Consultancy Services (ECS) partners, AtkinsRéalis will play a key role in supporting DCWW in its drive to ensure improved services for its customers and its plans for managing the future impact of climate change, by creating more resilient infrastructure.

The ECS Framework Agreement went live at the end of March and is set to run for an initial period of four years, with a four year optional extension at DCWW’s discretion.

The AtkinsRéalis team, based in its South Wales offices, will also work closely with DCWW to help identify the best options for the design and build of new assets with its construction partners, as well as mapping and modelling work for the treatment of waste water.

Jeremy Salisbury, framework director for AtkinsRéalis, said:

“As the water sector continues to invest in its assets and infrastructure in order to deliver improved services and create resilience against the challenge of climate change, we are extremely pleased to be working with DCWW to help deliver this record level of investment.

“Our appointment to this new framework builds on two decades of work with Dŵr Cymru Welsh Water and will enable us to broaden the range of services and expertise we can provide to help DCWW to meet its future goals.

“The water industry faces increased demand on water supply and related services, so it’s crucial to put in place a collaborative, integrated way of working with owners, partners, advisers and suppliers. The Capable Owner model will ensure the strategic decisions being made have the best possible outcomes for the future of our planet and its people.”

The appointment of the fully integrated professional services and project management firm builds on the services AtkinsRéalis has been delivering since 2019.  With headquarteres in Canada, AtkinsRéalis' long-standing relationship with DCWW has been developed over more than 20 years.
