Anglian Water has awarded Atkins Réalis UK Ltd the contract for design, consenting and enabling services for its Grafham to Rede project.

The water company is currently proposing a 2032 delivery date for the Grafham to Rede section of the interconnectors programme which is a key part of Anglian’s 25 year Water Resources Management Plan.
AtkinsRealis will carry out the outline design work for transferring 50Ml/d Water from Grafham Water Treatment Works to Rede Reservoir including new additions and modifications to water treatment and water storage facilities, pipelines and consenting works.
The Canadian-headquartered professional services and project management company will be tasked with producing an achievable and efficient consenting strategy for both parts of the scheme with a driver towards permitted development where practicable.
Scope of services AtkinsRealis will provide under the contract, which will run for a duration of under 12 months, include:
- Work with the Local Planning Authority and other statutory undertakers in the development and production of the screening opinion and any other consenting requirements.
- Engage with statutory and non-statutory stakeholders to achieve consent.
- Production of documentation required for screening and delivery of the construction phase.
- Work with Land Management team to achieve best economic/programme/stakeholder outcomes.
- Develop, produce and implement archaeological strategy - likely to involve working with the Anglian Water's Archaeological framework partners
- Work with and contribute to the Stakeholder Management Team as well as active stakeholder engagement
Atkins Réalis will also be expected to plan and allow in the consultant's programme physical site surveys (including ground investigation) necessary for screening opinion, planning permission or consenting requirement, together with collaborating with construction teams to create a deliverable scheme.
