The Environment Agency has awarded a contract for Plant Servicing, Inspection, Maintenance and Repair (SIMAR) services for plant assets with an estimated total value of approx. £56.33 million including VAT.

The Department for Environment Food & Rural Affairs (Defra) conducted the procurement process for the contract, which will support the Environment Agency and other Defra Groups.
Scope of the contract includes:
- Provision of a 24 / 7 national service
- Flexible and cost-effective supplier
- Ability to service, inspection, maintain, repair and operate a legally compliant fleet
- Provision of 24 / 7 breakdown and recovery services
- Minimal disruption to business operations/minimal downtime of assets
- Sustainable approach to all areas of operations
- Ability to repair and refurbish assets as required (predominantly plant)
Current estimated start and end contract dates are 16 November 2026 to 15 November 2029, with further possible extension options up to November 2032.
Plantexpand Ltd. has been awarded the contract, one of two companies who bid for the work. Earliest date the contract will be signed is 8 June 2026.
