Suez Environnement in 35 year, €3.5 billion Spanish water deal

Suez Environnement, via its subsidiary Agbar, has announced that it will manage the entire water cycle (water + sanitation) in the metropolitan area of Barcelona for a period of 35 years with €3.5 billion in revenues.

Agbar and AMB (Metropolitan Area of Barcelona) are creating a joint venture dedicated to water and wastewater management in 24 municipalities, including the Catalan capital and surrounding communities. The venture will be a public-private partnership in which Agbar will have an 85% interest and the Metropolitan Area of Barcelona will own 15%. The company, which will operate under the name of Aguas de Barcelona, will supply water to 3 million inhabitants.

The agreement means AMB is further strengthening its cooperation with Agbar by including wastewater management, in addition to water distribution management which Agbar currently operates. Agbar is the Spanish water sector leader and a major player in the water cycle in Latin America.
