A new study released by the European Commission today shows that green bonds have enjoyed extraordinary growth, since they were first issued in 2007, with the UK and France the biggest issuers in Europe.

Capital expenditure at Yorkshire Water increased by 78.2% in the six month period to 30 September 2016, rising to £175.5m compared to £98.5m for the same period last year, according to its interim results for the six months ended 30th September 2016.

EEA WATER REPORT TABLEThe quality of drinking water and bathing water, and the effectiveness of waste water treatment across the European Union continues to improve - but challenges remain, according to a new European Environment Agency (EEA) report published today.

Sutton & East Surrey Water is addressing its “disappointing performance on the Service Incentive Mechanism” which remains "our biggest single challenge", according to a statement by Chairman Jeremy Pelczer released on the company's progress to accompany the publication of its interim results for the six months ended 30 September 2016.

Ofwat has today published its rating of the quality of information and assurance water companies provide customers about their performance – the regulator has expressed concerns over how Yorkshire Water and Southern Water assure their data.

The water companies have agreed to fund a national campaign to raise awareness in the non-household sector ahead of the market opening to competition in April 2017, according to the latest update from Ofwat.

The European Commission's  funding programme is to invest more than €400 million across 14 new Horizon 2020 initiatives launched this month, including calls for demonstrating innovative nature-based solutions in cities and €223 million for multiple projects around climate services.

Profits fall at Portsmouth Water

Profits have fallen at Portsmouth Water, according to its latest set of Unaudited Interim Accounts for the six months ended 30 September 2016.

Verastar, which currently provides essential business services to micro SMEs, providing telecoms, utilities and financial services to over 140,000 businesses across the UK is getting ready for further business expansion and provide water services when the English retail market opens in April 2017.
