Ofwat has published new rules for the 2017-18 wholesale charges set by water and wastewater wholesalers ahead of retail market opening in April 2017 when 1.2 million business customers in England will be able to choose their supplier of water and wastewater retail services.

Irish Water EPA reportThe Irish Environmental Protection Agency is warning that a “substantial and sustained increase” in investment is required for wastewater treatment if pollution and health risks are to be avoided.

Thames Water’s  underlying profit before tax has fallen to £127.3 million for the six months ended  30 September 2016, compared to £216.8 million for the same period last year, according to its interim results published today.

Severn Trent has responded to a rival takeover bid for Dee Valley Water by  investment firm Ancala Fornia by increasing its initial offer which valued Dee Valley at £78.5 million to £84 million.

Severn Trent Water is on track to achieve £670 million of totex efficiencies across AMP6, with a further £50 million of efficiencies now locked in, according to its half year results for the six months ended 30th September published today.

Ofwat has published the the first full report produced under its financial monitoring framework which sets out the regulator’s analysis of the relative performance and financial strength of the water and wastewater companies in England and Wales.

United Utilities is continuing with its acceleration of capital investment in AMP6,  with a total of  £383 million invested in the first half and around £800 million planned for the full year, according to its half year results for the six months ended 30 September 2016 published today.
