Green Deal sees its first providers sign up

22 organisations have met with Climate Change Minister Greg Barker to sign an agreement with government to work to become the first Green Deal providers.

 

Businesses impacted by rising energy prices will have the opportunity to provide information and data that will shape a £250 million Government scheme aimed at alleviating their electricity bills.

Huge advance for tidal power in the North

The Neptune Proteus device, which will supply electricity to the Deep aquarium by harnessing tidal power, is being commissioned this week.

 

Scotland can achieve its target of meeting 100% of the country’s electricity needs from renewables as well as more from other sources by 2020 according to a new Scottish Government report.

The Government is considering a bonfire of red-tape to tackle delays holding back the West Country’s marine power industry, MPs have heard.

A new study by the Waste and Resources Action Programme (WRAP) has highlighted a significant increase in the number of anaerobic digestion plants in the UK which operate outside the water industry – up from just two in 2005 to 68 in 2011 and more in the pipeline.

UK could lead on marine renewables industry

The UK could become a leading exporter of wave and tidal power equipment and expertise if the Government adopts a more visionary approach to developing marine renewables, according to a new report by the Energy and Climate Change Select Committee.

Business Secretary Vince Cable has announced that a new national £50 million centre to accelerate the commercialisation of green technologies for offshore wind, wave and tidal power will be located in Glasgow.

UK greenhouse gas emissions rise 3.1%

Latest statisics released this morning by the Department for Energy and Climate Change show that UK greenhouse gas emissions rose by 3.1% in 2010.
