22 organisations have met with Climate Change Minister Greg Barker to sign an agreement with government to work to become the first Green Deal providers.
The Green Deal is the government’s plan to improve the nation’s draughty homes and offices at no upfront cost to the consumer.
The organisations who have signed today’s agreement at DECC include big business, SMEs and a community group. Green Deal providers will be offering energy efficiency packages to consumers when the scheme launches in October this year.
Green Deal providers could cooperate with water companies in order to address water efficiency issues, as Defra Minister Richard Benyon explained at the Waterwise Conference of 22 March 2012:
“The Green Deal offers an excellent opportunity to provide targeted advice to households and businesses on water efficiency. Water companies and Green Deal providers could create partnerships to see a range of work being done in a property at the same time.”
The government hopes the Green Deal will reduce energy use and emissions from UK buildings, which were responsible for 43 per cent of total UK emissions in 2009, while bringing in around £14bn of investment and supporting hundreds of thousands of new jobs.
The 22 organisation that have signed up are: Ampere Green Deal Provider, Anglian Home Improvements, BritishEco, British Gas, CarbonLow Group, Carillion, Empower Community, Enact Energy, E.ON, Gentoo Group, Grafton Group, Insta Group, Keepmoat, Kingfisher, Mark Group, ReEnergise Finance, SIG plc, SSE, Stroma, Toriga Energy, Willmott Dixon Energy Services and Yorkshire Energy Services.
