United Utilities has just finished work on a £10.4 million scheme to improve sewage treatment and boost water quality in the Solway Firth and Eden Estuary, north of Carlisle.

Scottish Water pled guilty yesterday at Oban Sheriff Court after sewage was allowed to spill into Tobermory Bay, and were fined £6,667.

Scottish Water has been fined £5,000 after failing to comply with their licence to discharge sewage effluent from Durris Sewage Treatment Works into the Durris burn, and failing to comply with an improvement notice.

Scottish Water’s third annual carbon footprint report shows the public utility has managed to reduce its greenhouse gas emissions by over 9,000 tonnes, largely due to its target-beating crackdown on leakage.

Global consultancy Scott Wilson has strengthened its masterplanning and policy expertise with the arrival of a 12-strong Masterplanning and Urban Design team.

Scott Wilson Group plc, the global integrated design and engineering consultancy for the built and natural environments, has released its Interim Management Statement for the period from 15 December 2009 to date.

Independent engineering and environmental consultancy, Royal Haskoning, has won a competitive bid to provide Surface Water Management Planning services and a Water Cycle Study for a consortium of Stafford, Lichfield, Tamworth and South Staffordshire local councils.

Ken Gillespie, Managing Director of Galliford Try Construction Group, has said that further job cuts cannot be ruled out – in the last eighteen months, the company has already seen a drop of around 15 per cent in staff numbers.

Portsmouth Water has published new documents in support of its Water Resources Management plan which is due to be examined at a forthcoming public hearing.

Pennon Group Plc, owners of South West Water, has today issued an upbeat interim trading statement saying that financial performance since 1 October 2009 has been in line with management expectations.
