Bristol Water reservoir levels fall again

Bristol Water has reported that its reservoir levels have again dropped back by 1% to 51% full on average -this time last year they were 96% full on average.

The site of a £300 million scheme to bring cleaner seas to Sussex has been rated as one of the best in the country. Southern Water’s scheme to build a new wastewater treatment works at Lower Hoddern Farm, Peacehaven, scored 37.5 out of 40 when it was independently assessed by the Considerate Constructor Scheme (CCS) at the start of November.

Yorkshire Water is continuing with its £120 million programme of work to upgrade its sewer network and treatment works to help further reduce the risk of flooding to hundreds of properties across the region.

A £21 million programme to give Wirral's largest water pipes a deep clean is due to restart this week.

Thames Water is starting work this month on a  £2.5million scheme to replace 4.3 miles (6.9km) of worn-out Victorian water mains in the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea.

Natural catastrophes in 2010 cost US$ 130bn

Global insurance and re-insurance group Munich Re has said that natural catastrophes in 2010 caused losses of US$ 130bn.

New Chair to help Wales manage flood risk

Environment Minister Jane Davidson has announced the appointment of a new Chair to the Welsh body that advises on flood risk management.

The Northern Ireland Authority for Utility Regulation has asked for a meeting with NI Water this week to discuss the company’s performance.

Caroline Spelman, Environment Secretary at the Department for Environment Food and Rural Affairs (Defra) has announced that over 95 per cent of England’s finest wildlife and geological sites, covering more than one million hectares of countryside, are now in favourable or recovering condition.
