Scottish Water to investigate site for new CSO to reduce flood risk

Exploratory environmental work on behalf of Scottish Water is set to take place at a proposed location for new waste water infrastructure to reduce the risk of flooding in the Cambuslang area.

The work, which has been agreed with South Lanarkshire Council, Starting on March 23, the work is expected to last around two weeks and will be carried out by contractors ESG on behalf of Scottish Water’s alliance partner ABV.

Scottish Water has written to nearby homes and businesses to provide advance notice of the work, which will involve sinking boreholes and excavating trial pits for ground investigation work.

The investigations, which have already looked at the previous site usage, will help determine if the site is an appropriate location for the installation of a Combined Sewer Overflow (CSO) on the north side of Dukes Road. A CSO is an underground chamber which is designed to screen sewerage discharges to the nearby watercourse and to reduce the risk of flooding.

Bill Elliot, Scottish Water’s Community Team Manager for South Lanarkshire, said Scottish Water had identified the installation of a CSO at the location as a way of helping to alleviate flooding during periods of heavy rain and improving the quality of water in the adjacent Eastfield Burn.
