VolkerStevin joins Centre for Flood Risk and Resilience

VolkerStevin has partnered with Brunel University’s Centre for Flood Risk and Resilience.

CENTRE FFRThe Centre was set up with the aim of helping key stakeholders develop relevant skills and knowledge, thereby supporting the UK Government's Industrial Strategy.

VolkerStevin will be working alongside other partners, including the Environment Agency, HR Wallingford, Jacobs and CIWEM to co-create STEM learning material, alongside a range of accredited online CPD modules, to complete the skills pipeline that the Centre plans to offer.

The Government has committed to spending £2.3 billion by 2021 on improving flood defences and resilience. With this comes the need to ensure that people working across the infrastructure sector are equipped with the right skills to deliver on this investment with the correct flood resilience and sustainability outcomes.

The Centre’s ambition is to develop learning that delivers resilience awareness, creating a skills capacity roadmap for flood control methods, to shape and deliver the education solutions needed.

With a broad range of stakeholders, from consultants to regulators, the aim of the Centre is to create the curriculum and delivery methods needed to teach the necessary skills, which are highlighted in the UK Industrial Strategy and the National Infrastructure Plan for Skills.

The modules developed draw from the expertise of their partners and from Flood and Coastal Engineering undergraduate and post graduate programmes offered at Brunel University London in collaboration with the Environmental Agency and HR Wallingford.

Eddie Tattersall, VolkerStevin Business Development Director, said:

“We are delighted to be involved with the Centre for Flood Risk and Resilience and look forward to our partnership going forward. Hopefully VolkerStevin will be able to offer vital expertise and knowledge that can assist in the development of future Flood and Coastal Engineering courses.”
