susdrainPlanning applications are twice as likely to be blocked or delayed due to sustainable drainage system (SuDS) design in England than in Wales, according to a new report published today by the Institution of Civil Engineers (ICE) and Wavin.

The Ipswich Tidal Flood Barrier has won a top award from leading international engineering professional membership body the Institution of Civil Engineers (ICE), which supports more than 90,000 engineers worldwide.

s300 barrierThe government has launched a call for evidence which will form the basis for future policies to protect people, businesses and the environment from the devastating effects of flooding and coastal erosion.

Burton FAS EA flood embankmentsWork has started on a major Environment Agency flood scheme for the town of Burton-upon-Trent - the £30 million project will reduce flood risk for 5,500 properties currently facing possible flooding from the River Trent, including 4,500 homes and 1,000 businesses.

The Environment Agency is continue to explore its options via working with partners to investigate how they could reduce flooding from the River Thames in north Reading and Lower Caversham.

thames-641963  340Sir James Bevan, Chief Executive at the Environment Agency is warning that the costs of flood infrastructure provision in England are likely to "cost a good deal more"  than the £50 billion the EA has already predicted it will cost over the next fifty years.

Climate change topped the agenda when the fourth Flood and Coast Conference opened in Telford yesterday - Sir James Bevan, Chief Executive of the Environment Agency, opened with a speech highlighting the need to adapt to make homes, businesses and communities more resilient to climate change.

The Environment Agency is warning that ongoing river flooding is expected to continue over the next five days in Wainfleet, Lincolnshire and that further properties could be affected.

The Environment Agency and Herefordshire Council are using satellite technology to target sites where soil water run-off is causing big problems for the environment and the county’s roads.
