FLOOD ROAD SIGNA new report by the Department for Environment, Food & Rural Affairs has found that a £2.6 billion, six-year programme of work dedicated to improving flood and coastal defences has exceeded its original targets by 14,000 – with over 314,000 homes now better protected from flooding since 2015.

FLOOD DEFENCE ASSET GENERICThe Environment Agency is checking hundreds of flood defence assets along the River Severn to make sure they are fully operational and ready to protect against flood risk.

EA ROUTE OF OXFORD FLOOD ALLEVIATION SCHEME 1The Environment Agency has submitted the planning application to build the Oxford flood alleviation scheme to reduce flood risk to the city from the River Thames.

Environment Agency Bentley Pumping Station 1A newly refurbished pumping station at Bentley, Doncaster, which provides greater protection to 1,699 homes and businesses, has been officially opened.

 COASTAL EROSION GENERIC 1The Department for Environment, Food & Rural Affairs has announced a £36 million investment to explore innovative approaches of adapting to the effects of coastal erosion.

Bridgwater tidal barrier design visualisationEnvironment Secretary George Eustice has this week authorised the construction of the £100 million Bridgwater tidal barrier with a Transport and Works Act better protecting 11,300 homes and 1,500 businesses in the town and surrounding areas.

Flood hydrologyThe Environment Agency has published a flood hydrology roadmap setting out a 25-year vision to help predict and manage flood risk.

FLOOD DEFENCES NORFOLK COASTThe Environment Agency has undertaken the annual renewal of natural flood defences along the west Norfolk coast - the project involves moving 14,000 tonnes of sand and shingle from Snettisham Scalp, where it has been deposited by the tidal movement of the sea.

ABERDEENSHIRE DERAILMENT - AFTERMATH OF INCIDENTA Rail Accident Investigation Branch (RAIB) investigation has found that errors in the construction of a drainage system were the primary cause of a fatal train derailment at Carmont in Aberdeenshire last year.
